Satellite Photos of Haitian Tent Cities

Could you imagine living in a tent, in the middle of a city, without proper sanitation for a year?

A friend sent me a link to these satellite photos. Compare the photos taken on 1-12-2010 and the ones taken on 11-8-2010. You can see the growth of the tent cities and, yes, they are still there almost a year later. One of the camps looks well-managed, but I know from experience most are not.

Interim Haiti Recovery Commission Update

Here's a breakdown of the goals the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission has set at a recent meeting. I hope they can get it all done.

Some goals include:

1. Housing: 400,000 people to be relocated from camps;


2. Debris: 40 per cent to be removed;

3. Education: build and staff 250 temporary structures; build and staff 60 fundamental schools in communal sections where no public schools exist; equip up to 3000 public and private schools; feed 250,000 children; provide up to 500,000 children with an education kit - manuals and uniforms; provide up to 500,000 children with financial assistance in private schools; and train 5,000 teachers;
